Good Evening!

We hope that you have been able to enjoy the fall weather that has arrived and the break in the rain that we have experienced lately. Our woods are finally drying out and we had a couple of days of nature play in them this past week. Oh how our hearts needed that! We have settled into our academic routines and our students are loving learning- math, reading, and science through project based learning. They are running around the playground three times a day, playing flag football, climbing trees, and participating in door decorating contests on how we can reduce, reuse, and recycle to save our ocean animals. They are needle felting, learning about “pickle” syllables, doing copywork, learning math facts, and playing math games. The joy that is in our school day is contagious and so precious. We are so grateful for this school and this community.

Academic Highlight

All of our science and history instruction is done through project based learning. This term, we are learning about Oceanography. Each day, we teach a 20 minute lesson on a topic related to oceanography. The students then have about an hour each day to create something related to oceanography. They have to plan, build, reflect, make a “museum” sign, get a peer check, and decide if their project is “for sale” or “not for sale” at our end of term showcase. Our hallway is completely filled with dozens of projects that Explorers have made and they are so eager to show off all that they have learned at our upcoming showcase.

Staff Highlight

Ms. Jenn is our Sprouts (Kindergarten/First Grade) teacher and she couldn’t be more magical. She is full of joy, excitement, and the most creative ideas for our youngest learners. Our Sprouts love to learn from and with Ms. Jenn in the Sprouts classroom because of the life that she brings to each and every day. We are so lucky to have her as a part of our CCS team!  Check out Jenn’s biography on our website: https://www.creeksidecottageschool.org/about

Nature Highlight

For our most recent field trip, we went to downtown Gahanna and their Creekside area. The Parks and Rec department for Gahanna is absolutely amazing and our Explorers are always so engaged in their lessons. We learned about what kind of creatures live in the water around Gahanna and how we can tell how clean a body of water is based on what animals are present or not present.  We highly recommend attending as many programs put on by Gahanna Parks and Recreation as you can each year!

Enrichment Highlight

At Creekside Cottage School, we believe that getting out into the community is just as important as the learning we do inside the classroom. Because of that, we take a field trip most Fridays. So far this year, we have been to Three Creeks Metropark and learned about the trees and nuts that grow there, the Columbus Zoo to learn about ocean animals, COSI to visit the Ocean Exhibit, and Gahanna Creekside/Parks and Rec to learn about the water near us. We can’t wait for even more field trips to enhance our learning this year!

Enrollment Update

We currently have no spots for the 2026-2027 school year. We are fine tuning our enrollment process for the 2027-2028 school year and will start sending out information soon. Because of the amount of siblings we have coming up in 2027-2028 from current families, we do not anticipate many, if any, openings in our Sprouts room. We do anticipate some spots in our Scholars room and will start by adding grades 6 and 7. Continue to watch these emails because we will send out the Scholars (Grades 6 and 7) information very shortly and will continue to update you on any other openings from all other classrooms.
